How Much To Spend On a Significant Other

  I heard a conversation on the radio the other day about how much you should spend on a significant other based on how long you have been dating that person. Like, if you had been dating that person for 6 months you should spend only $50 or if you have been dating for a year you spend $100 dollars. Whatever the price to time ratio is I completely disagree with spending X amount of dollars on that person because you have spent X amount of time with them. I my opinion that's not how you should be buying gifts for that person. 

Both me and my girlfriend agreed upon a budget this year for how much we were going to spend on each other and we have been dating for just shy of 2 year. We both spent more than that on each other already. And that's because we really care about each other and we want to get things that each will like. I often go shopping and think wow she would really love that and I buy it. It doesn't matter what the cost is. What matters is that you are thinking about that person when you get them something and that your putting some thought into what you are buying that person.

Now lets be realistic though if you are dating someone for 2 months you should probably not buy them diamond earrings and bracelets. While it is true girls love diamonds buying them for someone after two months definitely sends a message that you think things are serious. And if they are not serious or she doesn't think things are serious that can cause problems in a relationship. And don't go for the generic 3 month gift like perfume or cologne either because that shows no thought. What really counts is the thought you put into it. You should get them something that shows you are paying attention to their likes and dislikes. And there is no magic price on that. Again be reasonable and and don't spend hundreds of dollars you don't have. But if the idea strikes you and it costs a bit more but you know they will love it go ahead and buy it regardless of how long you have been dating them. When in doubt just get what feels right to you and trust me they will love it regardless of how much it costs.

P.S. A tip for guys with girlfriends. It doesn't always need to be a special occasion to get your girl something nice. If you see something they would like get it. Again trust me on this one.
